How we verify doctors, clinics and hospitals

Every doctor in India must be registered with a medical council before they can practise. Every listing on this site shows whether we have checked that registration, against which register, and on what date. This page explains each check, what it tells you and what it does not.

Doctors: registration checks

We look up each doctor, one at a time, on the official register that applies to them:

WhoWhere we check
Doctors of modern medicine (MBBS, MD, MS and so on)The Indian Medical Register kept by the National Medical Commission, and the register of the state medical council the doctor is registered with
DentistsThe register of the state dental council, or the National Dental Register. The National Dental Commission replaced the Dental Council of India on 19 March 2026.
Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Sowa-Rigpa practitionersThe national register of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM), or the state board register
HomoeopathsThe national register of the National Commission for Homoeopathy, or the state board register.
Any of the above, if enrolledThe ABDM Healthcare Professionals Registry

We match the name, registration number, council and qualifications on the register with what the listing shows. If they do not match, the listing stays unchecked until we sort it out with the doctor or clinic.

What a “checked” date means

“Registration checked 12 March” means that on that date we found this doctor’s registration on the official register and it matched the listing. It is a record of what the register said on that day.

A listing without a checked date has not been checked yet. It is labelled “not yet checked”, it sits below checked listings and it is kept out of search engines until it is checked.

Clinics and hospitals: facility checks

For a clinic or hospital, we check as many of these as apply, and show each one we have confirmed:

Each check has its own date and names the record we used.

Fees and prices

We show a consultation fee or a package price only once we have confirmed it with the clinic, and we show the date it was confirmed and what it covers, such as a first visit in person. Prices change, so please confirm with the clinic before you go. We never estimate a fee and present it as the clinic’s.

What we do not verify

A registration check tells you a person is registered to practise. It does not tell you how good they are. We do not check or judge:

  • clinical skill, outcomes or success rates
  • whether a doctor is right for your condition
  • disciplinary history, unless it appears on the official register
  • waiting times, hygiene or the quality of care at a clinic
  • which insurers or government schemes a clinic accepts, unless the profile says that item was confirmed

How often we re-check

We re-check every listing at least once a year, and whenever we are told something has changed. If a doctor’s registration can no longer be found, we mark the listing unchecked straight away while we look into it.

Check a doctor yourself

You do not need to take our word for it. The registers are public, and it takes a few minutes:

  1. Find the doctor’s registration number and council. It should be on their prescription pad or signboard, and on their profile here.
  2. For a doctor of modern medicine, open the NMC Indian Medical Register search.
  3. Search by name or by registration number, and choose the state medical council if asked. You may need to fill in a short security check.
  4. Compare the name, qualifications, council and year of registration with what you have been told.
  5. If you cannot find the doctor, try the state medical council’s own website, as some councils update their registers before the national one.
  6. For dentists, AYUSH practitioners and homoeopaths, use the registers listed in the table above.
  7. For a hospital, look up its accreditation on the NABH list.

If a register shows something different from our listing, please tell us. We will re-check it, usually within 5 working days.

Common questions

Can a clinic pay to be marked as checked?

No. Checks are free, and the same checks apply to every listing. A paid profile upgrade does not change any check or any position. See our editorial policy.

Why do some listings say “not yet checked”?

We add listings from public records before we have checked every doctor. We would rather show you plainly what is unchecked than hide it. Unchecked listings sit below checked ones and are kept out of search engines.

Do you show doctors’ photographs?

No. Profiles show factual details: name, qualifications, specialty, registration and where the doctor practises.
