Nephrology

Kidney disease, dialysis and transplant care

Nephrologists treat kidney disease, including long-term kidney damage from diabetes or high blood pressure, and they look after people on dialysis or with a kidney transplant. Common reasons to see one are a rising creatinine, protein in the urine, swelling, or blood pressure that is hard to control. Most people are referred by a general physician. Kidney stones are usually handled by a urologist.
