Cardiologists treat conditions of the heart and blood vessels, including angina, heart attack, heart failure, irregular heartbeat and valve problems. Common reasons to see one are chest pain on effort, palpitations, breathlessness or an abnormal ECG. Most people are referred by a general physician, though some book directly. Chest pain lasting more than a few minutes is an emergency: call 112 or 108 and do not wait for an appointment.
